overview

Project Mission

Create a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) functional organizational design tool that can be accessed by Global Consulting Firm’s staff, focusing on three main areas of development including foundational features, an open collaboration model, and usability and security, to help Global Consulting Firm accelerate the organizational analysis process, establish market differentiation, and avoid the high cost of external tools. The goal for phase 1 is to conduct user research and competitive analysis research of current tools, develop a process flow, make a high fidelity prototype, and provide design specifications to facilitate phase 2.

Product Goals

market

Current Landscape

Current companies focus on data visualization and processing, standardized automated strategies, and either internal or external collaboration tools.

Competitive Landscape

We defined marketing differentiating opportunity to be Compatibility with Client HR Tools, Collaborative Features, Automated Strategies, and Intuitive Interfaces.

Global Consulting Firm’s Position

Our feature ideas combine the competitive advantages of each tool and further elevate various tools to autonomously generate Global Consulting Firm’s strategy and data-driven solutions while facilitating internal and external collaboration.

research

To understand the industry from a ground level, we interviewed 2 analysts at the firm and 3 analysts at competitor firms to understand the level of interaction they have with their company’s respective internal organizational tools. Additionally, given that one of the pillars of our product goal is usability, 1st-year analysts were the clear choice to interview as they had the most up-to-date information on onboarding and the least familiarity with the tools.

From conducting interviews, we generated a user persona as we began to delve into the design and prototyping phase.

features

Through conducting user interviews, generating a user persona, and communicating with the client, we developed a set of foundational and nice-to-have features.

Nice-to-Have Features

• automated data-driven strategies

• task management system

• industry benchmark and comparison

Foundational Features

• data ingestion

• data transformation

• data cleansing

• data linking

• data dashboard

• data visualization

• project dashboard

planning

prototyping

Low Fidelity // focus on formalizing data visualization types and dashboard design

Mid Fidelity // focus on the manipulation of data visualizations and slide deck making

testing

We conducted 6 usability tests with new users following the task flow stipulated above. This testing cycle allowed us to hone in on specific logic flow errors in the wireframes we have created and identify significant misinformation. These changes will later be reflected in the final design.

deliverables & remarks

This project culminated with a final presentation, product walk-through, high fidelity prototype, and documentation specification document to facilitate the implementation phase. We presented the client with a ranked priority list of nice-to-have features to be considered for the future. Following this project, I went on to TA the client-based project course and serve as an advisor for 6 other client projects.
